Bill 3013/24 obliges the Federal Public Administration to supply its own fleet of light and heavy vehicles with ethanol or any other renewable fuel. The House of Representatives is analyzing the proposal.
According to the text, the federal government should also develop public policies to exempt taxes and encourage the production of ethanol and other renewable energy sources targeting the domestic market.
“IEA data show that the use of sugarcane ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 89% on average compared to gasoline,” says the author, Cabo MP Gilberto Silva (PL-BP).
Another big benefit of ethanol, he adds, is that its production also generates other sources of energy. “Basse and straw, which are the substrates of sugarcane, produce steam that can be converted into thermal, mechanical and electrical energy called bioelectricity. This electricity could be supplied to the ethanol plant itself or sold to the Brazilian electrical system,” concludes Silva.
