Abraceel is calling for all consumers, including residential consumers, to be given the option to choose their energy supplier from 2026
The free energy market, an environment in which consumers can choose suppliers, sources and contractual terms, reached 60,767 consumer units. In the year, 22,236 consumers migrated to the duty free market, an increase of 58% compared to 2023.
Topping the list of states with the largest number of free consumers is São Paulo (19,341 units), followed by Rio Grande do Sul (5,913), Paraná (5,062), Rio de Janeiro (5,001), and Minas Gerais (4,769).
Free energy consumers already account for 40% of the country’s electricity consumption, an increase of 5 percentage points compared to 2023 (35%). At times during the year 2024, this percentage reached 42%, as a result of the variation in electricity consumption in free and regulated environments. The indicator includes losses.
For Abracell, the growth reflects the growing interest of consumers in seeking more favorable conditions in energy supply, a movement that gained strength after Law No. 50/2022 allowed all high-voltage consumers to choose their suppliers.. (Abrasil Consulting)
