Each year WalletHub looks at various quality of life issues such as the best and worst places to raise a family, energy costs, happiest states etc. Just released are its Greenest Cities in America (2024) findings.
Disclaimer: I don’t spend much time digging into methodology. However, the basic structure of this evaluation seems reasonable and the data sources are credible and varied. With analyses like this I think the key take-away is the relative performance more than the absolute scores achieved by any particular city.
Note this statement by Wallethub analyst by Chip Lupo to understand the mindset behind this analysis:
“There are plenty of things that individuals can do to adopt a green lifestyle, from recycling to sharing rides to installing solar panels on their homes. However, living in one of the greenest cities can make it even easier to care for the environment, due to sustainable laws and policies, access to locally-grown produce and infrastructure that allows residents to use vehicles less often. The greenest cities also are better for your health due to superior air and water quality.”
Today we reveal the 5 least green cities. Tomorrow we’ll highlight the 5 greenest ones.
