It is perhaps the hottest topic in energy now. Tapping nuclear small modular reactors (SMRs) to supply the insatiable appetite for energy by data centers. Sean James, Microsoft’s Sr Director Energy & Datacenter Research, provides an informative assessment of the pros and challenges of deploying SMRs to drive datacenter energy demand. Excerpt from Sean’s article, “My first experience with nuclear power was on the USS Nevada, a US Navy ballistic submarine. My bed was close to the 30MWth S8G reactor by General Electric. The US Navy’s flawless reactor safety record shows how safe and reliable nuclear power can be when led by well-trained and capable people.” Enjoy!
