In the first half of September, production units in the central and southern regions processed 42.93 million tons, compared to 41.90 million in the 2023/2024 crop, representing a growth of 2.46%. In the 2024/2025 season until September 16, crushing reached 466.26 million tons, compared to 448.55 million tons recorded in the same period of the previous cycle.
At the end of the two weeks, 259 units remained operational in the center and south, of which 240 processed sugarcane, nine companies made ethanol from corn and ten flex plants. During this two weeks, one milling unit closed down. In the previous session, on the same date, no factory completed its preparation period.
Regarding the quality of the raw material, the level of total recoverable sugars during the first half of September reached 159.52 kg per ton of sugarcane, compared to 153.41 kg per ton in 23/24 – a positive variance of 3.98. %. In the cumulative harvest result, the indicator shows a value of 139.35 kg TRS per ton (+0.43%).
Sugar and ethanol production
Sugar production during the first half of September reached 3.123 million tons, which is almost the same production recorded during the same period of the 2023/2024 season (3.126 million tons). In the cumulative period from the beginning of the harvest until September 16, desalination production reached 30.29 million tons, compared to 29.27 million tons in the previous cycle (+3.49%).
The percentage of sugarcane used in manufacturing the sweetener is still hampered by the quality of the raw material and showed a significant decline in the first half of September, reaching only 47.86% of the raw material used in sugar production this year compared to 51.04% recorded in the same two weeks of the previous harvest.
“Although an additional 6 kg ATR was recorded per ton of sugarcane processed in the first half of September, the sucrose content per ton is almost the same as that observed in the same period of the year,” explains UNICA Sector Intelligence Director, Luciano Rodrigues. the previous”. Juice purity decreased by more than 2.0 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023.
UNICA’s CEO explains that in the accumulated harvest, from April to August, it was possible to observe an 11% increase in the amount of reducing sugars compared to the indicator recorded in the previous year. “The unfavorable weather conditions observed since last summer, the recent fires that affected the crop and the sugarcane crop processed outside the initially planned schedule are among the main factors responsible for this scenario in recent weeks,” Rodriguez added.
In the first half of September, ethanol production by units in the center and south reached 2.43 billion liters, of which 1.60 billion liters were hydrous ethanol (+26.66%) and 833.77 million liters were anhydrous ethanol (-3.90%). In the current agricultural cycle, total biofuel production reached 22.95 billion liters (+8.15%), of which 14.66 billion liters were hydrous ethanol (+17.88%) and 8.29 billion liters anhydrous (-5.62%).
Of the total ethanol obtained in the first half of August, 14% was manufactured from corn, recording a production of 336.06 million liters this year, compared to 285.33 million liters in the same period of the 2023/2024 cycle – an increase of 17.78%. From the beginning of the harvest season to date, corn ethanol production has reached 3.47 billion liters, an increase of 26.01% compared to the same period last year.
Ethanol sales
Ethanol sales in the first fifteen days of September amounted to 1.32 billion litres, representing a slight increase of 0.70% compared to the same period of the 2023/2024 harvest season.
In the domestic market, the total volume of hydro-ethanol sold by units in the center and south reached 811.22 million liters, an increase of 2.04% compared to the same period of the previous harvest. In contrast, anhydrous ethanol sales reached 475.50 million liters, an increase of 3.64%.
In the 24/25 harvest season, total ethanol sales by units in the center and south reached 16.21 billion liters, registering a growth of 16.76%. The accumulated volume of hydrous ethanol was 10.52 billion liters (+32.61%), while that of anhydrous ethanol was 5.69 billion liters (-4.37%).
CBIOS Market
Data from B3 through September 23 indicate 30.03 million credits will be issued in 2024 by biofuel producers. The total amount of CBios available for trading with committed and non-committed parties and issuers is 29.60 million decarbonisation credits.
“Adding the CBios available for commercialization and the credits already drawn to achieve the 2024 target, we already have more than 86% of the addresses needed to meet the entire amount required by the program for the end of this year,” explained the UNICA director. (unique)
