Highview Power Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) programme with the launch of a 2.5GWh liquid air energy storage (LAES) plant at Hunterston, Ayrshire.
The facility will significantly enhance Scotland’s energy storage capabilities, delivering five times the country’s current operational battery storage capacity, and play a critical role in stabilising the grid, advancing Scotland’s renewable energy production.
Highview met with the First Minister, John Swinney, at Scotland House yesterday to discuss the facility, which will be the largest of its kind in the world, with the capacity to power 650,000 homes for 12.5 hours.
This landmark project positions Scotland at the forefront of global decarbonisation efforts, providing essential storage for offshore wind and addressing grid constraints. We’re proud to play a vital role in the UK’s journey to net zero and look forward to delivering major investment in Ayrshire, driving economic growth, and creating sustainable jobs across the region.
