Brazil: How to reduce emissions – 3 solutions!
The great challenge posed by both the international and Brazilian media is centered on the need to prevent the temperature increase limits agreed upon by most countries from being exceeded progressively, as is currently happening.
The consequences are being observed on a daily basis. From fires much larger than those historically observed, as well as floods and blizzards. A problem that seems to be gigantic and requires major new international agreements. However, I see a path for Brazil that is very simple, technically an economically proven, BUT that depends on decisions that interfere with the major interests involved.
1. Crony power projects
Act diligently to promptly eliminate the authorization to build plants that are not economically and environmentally viable – but that are approved due to agreements between the political parties involved.
2. Power theft
More than 10% of the energy produced in the country is stolen. In broad daylight! Anyone who visits the “poor communities” can easily notice! Those that do not pay the official cost, consume energy as much as they want, increasing emissions! And helping organized crime to prosper.
3. Instantaneous showers They represent the largest aggregate installed load in the country. They should be replaced by thermal storage (tanks) systems. This would avoid the need for a large part of the expansion of the installed generation, transmission and distribution capacity of the electricity sector and consequently emissions.
Will our leaders have the determination and courage to make the necessary decisions?
