The value of a kilo of live pigs exceeds R$10, reaching an increase of 50.74% compared to January of this year.
Live pig prices in Goiás recorded a historic increase in the second half of November. According to a survey by the Brazilian Pig Breeders Association (ABCS), conducted since 2020, the price per kilo reached R$10.10, representing a 50.74% difference since January, when the value reached R$6.70. For pig farmers from Goiás, the increase represents repairs for losses resulting from the crises the sector has faced in the past four years.
A rising market occurs due to rising demand both internally and externally. Analysis by the Guyana Pig Breeders Association (AGS) shows that the sector has shown 8% growth compared to exports since May 2024. With rising product prices, Brazilian pig farming is expected to end the year with stable production, record exports and strong market demand.
According to the Agro M. Dados survey, prepared by the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supplies (Seapa), August ranks third in pork exports from Goiás. This month stands out in terms of volume and value, representing growth of 4.4% and 15.9%, respectively, compared to 2023.
According to the National Supply Company (CONAB), expectations indicate an increase in demand for pork in the local market. Moreover, there is an estimated 3% increase in the volume of exports compared to 2024.
For Seapa’s president, Pedro Leonardo Rezende, the sector must continue to show improvement after the crisis experienced by pig farmers. “After recovering in 2024, the sector has great potential to continue growing and breaking records in the state. We can consider that the expectation is that this scenario will be strengthened in 2025.”
The Minister also highlights the importance of the surveys conducted. “Today, thanks to the data obtained from the research carried out, it is possible to analyze the overall landscape of pig farming, thus helping to make strategic decisions aimed at strengthening the sector,” he concludes.
