VEIC Managing Consultant and lead Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) expert Chris Badger authored an opinion piece highlighting two TECH Clean California Quick Start Grant projects that tested solutions to a common customer barrier that’s holding back widespread HPWH adoption – emergency replacements. Chris’ insights lean on his decades of experience leading real-world community engagement strategies to demonstrate solutions that can be implemented today while making the case for a future that continues to give innovative ideas a clear path to take off.
The two solutions highlighted show:
- Results from a gas-to-electric loaner program that increased HPWH adoption during emergency replacements by ensuring that customers have hot water while completing any necessary upgrades for electrification or waiting for equipment to arrive.
- How incorporating emerging plug-in 120 V (volt) HPWH into existing energy efficiency programs can be an effective and affordable option
In addition to TECH Clean California’s role in delivering savings for California communities, the initiative is also designed to be an innovation resource for Utilities and other energy program administrators to learn about leading electrification best practices through TECH’s public data reporting, pilot programs, and Quick Start Grants (QSG).
